Using Color Psychology to Sell Your Home

Using Color Psychology to Sell Your Home-Woods

When painting your home for resale, choosing the right colors can make a huge difference in your paycheck at closing. For instance, did you know that the exterior color of houses selling most quickly is a certain shade of yellow, but that choosing the wrong shade of yellow can kill a sale?

Woods

You'll find many brochures in paint stores, showing various combinations of exterior paint colors. But most people don't realize that most of those combinations actually include three colors, and not just two. Limiting your exterior paint scheme to just two colors also limits your income potential.

For a fast sale, think fun colors and go for a third, or even a fourth, exterior color. Think "Disneyland Main Street," where every shop is painted in glorious multi-colors. Adding more colors will also add definition to the various architectural details of your home. Use gloss or semi-gloss paint on wood trim.

The Psychology of Exterior Colors

When choosing exterior colors, take the sales price of your home into account. Certain colors, especially muted, complex shades, attract wealthy or highly-educated buyers, whereas buyers with less income or less education generally prefer simpler colors. A complex color contains tints of gray or brown, and usually requires more than one word to describe, such as "sage green," as opposed to "green."

On the other hand, simple colors are straightforward and pure. Generally, houses in the lower price range sell faster and for higher prices when painted in simple colors like yellow or tan, accented by white, blue, or green trim.

The Psychology of Interior Colors

Using colored, rather than bland, white walls will increase your profit potential. Lynette Jennings tested the perception of room size and color, and discovered that a room painted white appeared only appeared larger to a few people when compared to an identical room painted in color - and the perceived difference was only about six inches! Most people also look better when surrounded by color, and feel happier, and since buyers pick houses that make them feel happy, that knowledge can put dollars in your pocket at closing!

Entryways should bring the exterior colors into the house. Repeating shades of the exterior throughout your home will make the entire home seem to be in harmony. Living and family rooms painted in a slightly lighter shade of the exterior color will ensure that you've picked a color your buyers like, because if they didn't like your exterior colors, they wouldn't have bothered to look inside. If they loved the exterior colors, they'll love the interior, too.

When choosing interior colors, consider the use of each room. For instance, kitchen and dining areas that are painted in "food colors," such as coffee browns, celery greens, and scrambled egg yellows, feel natural.

Since, deeper shades of color imply intimacy and serenity, I like to paint master bedrooms a medium shade of green or blue for warm selling seasons, and rouge red for cooler weather. Other bedrooms can be painted in creamy tones of green, blue, or a pale shell pink. (See the chapter on the Psychology of Color in my book "Joy to the Home: Secrets of Interior Design Psychology" for further information.)

Selling Season

Always consider your selling season (the time of year you'll be marketing your home) and climate when choosing colors. Estimate the amount of time you'll need to get your home ready for sale, and then add on extra days for unexpected delays. Use cool colors, such as blues, greens, and grays, to sell during spring and summer, and warm colors, such as yellows, reds, and maroons, when selling in the fall and winter.

Color Intensity

My husband and I usually use lighter colors when painting the exteriors of our investment dollhouses, because it makes them appear larger. On the other hand, our cabin in the woods looks richer when painted a darker color. When we decided to have it painted, I considered the usual cabin colors of dark brown and barn red, but fell in love with Olympic's gorgeous "Gooseberry" plum color.

When getting ready to paint your house, look at the colors of neighboring houses and choose colors that harmonize, yet stand out from the crowd. Colors that clash badly with other houses will detract from the overall neighborhood.

At the beginning of the article, I told you that homes with yellow exteriors sell the quickest. But which shade of yellow sells best? First, the yellows to avoid: yellows with green undertones look sickly to most buyers, and yellows with orange undertones give buyers an impression of cheapness.

The best-selling yellow exterior color is actually a pale, sunny yellow, especially when complimented with one or more carefully-chosen accent colors. For instance, a semi-gloss white trim will give your home a clean and fresh look, and adding a third color, such as green, can make your home even more attractive to prospective buyers.

Colors affect human beings in many ways, and by using the principles of Color Psychology, you can make your home stand out from the competition, sell more quickly, and at a higher price.

The Writing Style of Hemingway

The Writing Style of Hemingway-Woods

For Whom the Bell Tolls portrays the typical Hemingway characters and addresses the issues of machoism and womanizing. In this novel, as in many of his other works, Hemingway employs extensive use of what is known as the Hemingway Code. Numerous influences from various people and events from his personal life also had an effect on his writing.

Woods

Many people hold the opinion that there has been no American writer like Ernest Hemingway. A member of the World War I "lost generation," Hemingway was in many ways his own best character. Whether as his childhood nickname of "Champ" or as the older "Papa," Ernest Hemingway became a legend of his own lifetime. Although the drama and romance of his life sometimes seem to overshadow the quality of his work, Hemingway was first and foremost a literary scholar, a writer and reader of books. This is often overlooked among all the talk about his safaris and hunting trips, adventures with bullfighting, fishing and war. Hemingway enjoyed being famous, and delighted in playing for the public spotlight. However, Hemingway considered himself an artist, and he did not want to become celebrated for all the wrong reasons.

Hemingway was born in the quiet town of Oak Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, on July 21, 1899. His father was a physician, and Ernest was the second of six children born to Dr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Hemingway. His mother, a devout, religious woman with considerable music talent, hoped that her son would develop an interest in music. Instead, Ernest acquired his father's enthusiasm for guns and for fishing trips in the north woods of Michigan (Lynn 63).

From almost the beginning of his writing career, Hemingway employed a distinctive style which drew comment from many critics. Hemingway does not give way to lengthy geographical and psychological description. His style has been said to lack substance because he avoids direct statements and descriptions of emotion. Basically his style is simple, direct and somewhat plain. He developed a forceful prose style characterized by simple sentences and few adverbs or adjectives. He wrote concise, vivid dialogue and exact description of places and things. Critic Harry Levin pointed out the weakness of syntax and diction in Hemingway's writing, but was quick to praise his ability to convey action(Rovit 47).

Hemingway spent the early part of his career as a journalist. In 1937, he went to Spain to cover the Spanish Civil War for the North American Newspaper Alliance. After a few months in Spain, Hemingway announced his plan to write a book with the Spanish Civil War as its background. The result was For Whom the Bell Tolls.

The majority of his early novels were narrated in the first person and enclosed within a single point of view, however, when Hemingway wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls, he used several different narrative techniques. He employed the use of internal monologues(where the reader is in the "mind" of a particular character), objective descriptions, rapid shifts of point of view, and in general a looser structure than in his earlier works. Hemingway believed that "a writer's style should be direct and personal, his imagery rich and earthy, and his words simple and vigorous. The greatest writers have the gift of brevity, are hard workers, diligent scholars and competent stylists(Magill 1287).

For Whom the Bell Tolls is the most serious and politically motivated novel that Hemingway wrote. There are few comic or light episodes in the entire book. For Whom the Bell Tolls is an attempt to present in depth a country and people that Hemingway loved very much. It was an effort to deal honestly with a very complex war made even more complex by the beliefs it inspired(Gurko 127).

Common to almost all of Hemingway's novels is the concept of the Hemingway hero, sometimes known as the "code hero." When Hemingway's novels were first published, the public readily accepted them. Part of this acceptance was due to the fact that Hemingway had created a character whose response to life appealed strongly to those who read his works. The reader saw in the Hemingway hero a person whom they could identify with in almost a dream sense. The Hemmingway hero was a man's man. He moved from one love affair to another, he participated in wild game hunting, enjoyed bullfights, drank insatiably, he was involved in all of the so-called manly activities in which the typical American male did not participate(Rovit 56).

Hemingway's involvement in the war instilled him with deep-seated political views. For Whom the Bell Tolls is a study of the individual involved in what was a politically motivated war. But this novel differs greatly from Hemingway's prior portrayal of the individual hero in the world. In this book, the hero accepts the people around him, not only a few select members of the distinguished, but with the whole community. The organization of this community is stated with great eloquence in the quotation from one of the poet John Donne's sermons upon the death of a close friend. This is the quotation from which the book takes its title:

No man is an Iland, intire of it selfe, every man is a peece of the Continent, a part of the maine, if a Clod bee washed away by the Sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a Promontorie were, as well as if a Mannor of thy friends or of thine owne were; any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for I thee.

Therefore, while the hero retains the qualities of the Hemingway Code, he has been built up by his unity with mankind. In the end, he finds the world a "fine place," that is "worth fighting for"(Curly 795). In his personal confrontation with death, Robert Jordan realizes that there is a larger cause that a man can chose to serve. In this way he differs from the earlier Hemingway hero. The insistence that action and its form be solely placed on one individual is still present, along with the need for the character to dominate that action. However, this issue is not longer a single matador against a single bull, or an individual character against his entire environment. The person is the "instrument of mankind" against the horrors of war. The political issues of this book are therefore presented not as a "contrast of black and white, but in the shaded tones of reality"(Magill 491).

While Jordan is the epitome of the hero in his actions, he is also in command of himself and his circumstances to a far greater extent than Hemingway's previous heroes; he is driven to face reality by deep emotional needs. Jordan's drives in the novel seem to be a direct reflection of Hemingway's own, because Hemingway had also been deeply affected by the suicide of his own father (Kunitz 561). Ironically, suicide as an escape from reality is a violation of Hemingway's own code. The self-doubt and fear that such an act brings to the children of a person who commits suicide is a well-known psychological outcome. This is perhaps why the painfulness of their fears causes Hemingway's heroes to avoid "thinking" at all costs. For "thinking" too much may prevent a person from reacting. And without something to react to, the hero is left to face his inner fears (Magill 474). Death is also used by Hemingway at the end of the novel to resolve the dramatic conflicts established by the story. The theme of death is likewise observable in other parts of the book, such as when the characters express their concern about dying during the attack on the bridge. As in other works following the suicide of his father, Hemingway brings his characters face to face with death. He admires those who face death bravely and without expressing emotion. For Hemingway, a man does not truly live life until analyzes the significance of death personally(Brooks 323).

In contrast to the Hemingway heroes are his female characters. Hemingway's approach to women in his works is particularly masculine. They are seen and valued in relation to the men in his stories insofar as they are absolutely feminine. Hemingway does not go into their inner world except as this world is related to the men with whom they are involved. The reader comes to view them as love objects or as anti-love figures (Whitlock 231). Part of the reason Hemingway had this opinion of woman was because the way he viewed his mother. He believed his mother to be a manipulator and blamed her in part for the suicide of his father. "The qualities he thought admirable in a man-ambition, and independent point of view, defiance of his supremacy-became threatening in a woman"(Kert 103).

Hemingway's heroines almost always personify the physical appearance of the ideal woman in their beauty. But in their personality they appear as two types: the "all-woman" who gives herself entirely to the hero and the "femme fatale" who retains herself and prevents the hero from possessing her completely. The "all-woman" is acceptable in Hemingway view because she submits to the hero. She wants no other life than with him. By succumbing to the hero, she allows him to dominate her and affirm his manhood. The "femme fatale" is usually a more complex character than the "all-woman" (Lynn 98). While she may or may not be nasty, she does not submit to the hero and wounds him and all the men around her primarily because they can not manage her and thus can not assert their manhood through her. But despite Hemmingway's portrayal of women, he usually has them fall into the same basic category as the men. The heroine, like the hero, obeys the "Hemmingway Code." She sees life for what it is even as she longs for something more. She is basically courageous in life, choosing reality over thought, and she faces death stoically. In practically every case there has already been in her life some tragic event-the loss of a lover, violence-which has given her the strength to face life this way (Lynn 102).

For Whom the Bell Tolls "is a living example of how, in modern times, the epic quality must be projected" (Baker 132). Heroic action is an epic quality, and For Whom the Bell Tolls contains this element. The setting is simple and the emphasis is on the basic virtues of uncomplicated people. The men are engaged in the conflict are prepared to sacrifice their lives; they are exceptional for their deeds of daring and heroism (Baker 94).

Behind the conception of this idea of the hero lies the disillusionment of the American public, the disillusionment that was brought about by the First World War. The impressionable man came to realize that the old ideas and beliefs rooted in religion and ethics had not helped to save man the catastrophe of World War I. As a result, after the war came to an end, Hemingway and other writers began to look for a new system of values, a system of values that would replace the old attitudes which they thought proved to be useless. The writers who adopted these new beliefs came to be known as the "lost generation."

The "lost generation," was a name instituted by Gertrude Stein and it signified the postwar generation and the literary movement produced by the young writers of the time (Unger 654). Their writing reflected their belief that "the only reality was that life is harsh" (Bryfonski 1874).

A great deal has been written about Ernest Hemingway's distinctive style. Ever since he began writing in the 1920's, he has been the subject of lavish praise and sometimes savage criticism. He has not been ignored.

To explain Hemingway's style in a few paragraphs in such a manner as to satisfy those who have read his articles and books is almost impossible. It is a simple style, straight forward and modest. Hemingway's prose is unadorned as a result of his abstaining from using adjectives as much as possible. He relates a story in the form of straight journalism, but because he is a master of transmitting emotion with out embellishing it, the product is even more enjoyable.

Lighting a Fine Craft Trade Show Booth - Options for the Budget-Conscious Artist

Lighting a Fine Craft Trade Show Booth - Options for the Budget-Conscious Artist-Woods

Good lighting is a main ingredient of a successful trade-show booth. Just the right lighting system can help an artist create the atmosphere of a fine-craft gallery. This will lure gallery owners off the isles and into your booth – the first step toward making a sale.

Woods

Lighting is a relatively expensive investment. So how does the budget-conscious artist find the right solution?

When it comes to choosing a lighting system, artists new to the trade show circuit often become overwhelmed. Prices vary wildly, and each convention center may have its own lighting rules. Lighting technology is changing rapidly, making the choices harder still.

This article details what I learned while tackling the challenge of lighting my 10’X10’ booth at the American Craft Retailers Expo (ACRE), a large wholesale show for American and Canadian craft artists. As I am new to trade shows, this information is meant only as a pointer for artists in the process of choosing lighting, and perhaps also for more seasoned artists looking to update their systems.

In examining many different lighting options, my objective was to illuminate my glass jewelry beautifully but inexpensively. I wanted the lights to be lightweight and modular, to fit in boxes for shipping to the show. I was looking for contemporary styling, in silver or black. And I wanted to have at least one special lighting effect – not too flashy – to give my booth a unique element.

In his CD on booth design, art business consultant Bruce Baker suggests 1,000 watts will light up a 10’X10’ booth very effectively. I decided to stay at or under 500 watts, however, because the ACRE show includes 500 watts with the booth price, and the halogen lighting I ultimately decided upon illuminates my displays very well. Since I bought the lights at a “big-box” store with sites in virtually every city in the U.S., I can add more lights once I’m at the trade show if necessary.

The Battle of the Bulb

Contractors Choice Lighting (www.ccl-light.com) says a light fixture is simply a “bulb holder.” The bulb, therefore, should drive one’s choice of a fixture. This is somewhat true for trade-show lighting, although the fixtures may dictate the types of bulbs, depending on the choices available at the store where one shops for the lights. The CCL website offers a “Bulb Photometrics” page ([http://ccl-light.com/photometrics.html]), whose graphical representation is a refreshing departure from the complex descriptions of lighting options that have proliferated on the web.

Halogen is the bulb of choice for many trade show exhibitors. It offers a crisp, white light. Although people commonly refer to halogen as non-incandescent, it is in fact a kind of incandescent lamp. It generates light by using a thin filament wire made of tungsten, heated to white by passing an electric current through it. According to General Electric, the first halogen lamp was developed in 1959 – not too long ago for many of us!

Halogen bulbs differ significantly from the traditional type of incandescents we grew up with. The halogen bulb’s filament is surrounded by halogen gases (iodine or bromine, specifically). These gases let the filaments operate at higher temperatures. The end result is a higher light output per watt.

The gases also do something rather miraculous: Tungsten tends to evaporate off the filament over time, and the gases actually help re-deposit the tungsten onto the filament. This extends the bulb’s life way beyond that of the traditional incandescent bulb, whose evaporated tungsten clings to the walls of the bulb like a smoky apparition and eventually the uncoated filament snaps. Who hasn’t rattled a burnt-out light bulb and enjoyed the jazzy cymbal sound of the broken filament inside?

In addition to giving off more light than traditional incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs emit a whiter light that provides better color rendition. “For highlighting and bringing out true colors, use halogen lamps,” suggests USA Light and Electric’s website (www.usalight.com). “Nothing looks better than the drama brought in with halogen lamps.”

Baker also suggests halogen lights – floodlights in particular – for a contemporary look, especially for jewelry and glass. It’s important to consider that other fine craft materials such as ceramics and wood might be better enhanced with halogen spotlights, or even with some of the more traditional incandescent lights that emit a warmer color.

Having decided upon halogen lighting, my next task would be to choose bulbs. The ACRE show takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which has instituted a strict halogen lighting policy. Each light cannot exceed 75 watts, and all halogen bulbs must be factory sealed in glass (not in a removable lens or linear shape).

Thankfully, there is plenty of factory-sealed halogen lighting, in the form of PAR halogen bulbs. PAR is an acronym for “parabolic aluminized reflector.” PAR bulbs have a built-in reflecting surface made of pressed glass. The glass provides both an internal reflector and prisms in the lens for control of the light beam.

PAR bulbs are numbered, as in PAR 16, PAR 20, PAR 56. The PAR number refers to the bulb shape. Bulbs.com has a halogen section of the site where you can quickly compare the various PAR bulbs visually. Within a given category of PAR bulbs there are various wattages, wide and narrow spotlights and floodlights, different base sizes, and even different colors.

Fortunately I was able to skip the process of deciding on a PAR bulb by deciding first where to shop for my lights (more on that below).

Power Issues

When you go to shop for track lights, you’ll notice there’s a choice between 12-volt and 120-volt fixtures. 120 is the standard voltage that comes directly into most homes and offices – and convention centers.

For a lamp using 120 volts, no additional parts are necessary beyond a regular socket. 120-volt fixtures generally are lighter than 12-volt fixtures because they don’t need a transformer. They also cost less and can use halogen or regular incandescent bulbs.

I stopped short of investigating 12-volt fixtures, except to find out that they step down the amount of energy being used to a lower voltage, and thus are more energy efficient. They require a transformer to convert the 120-volt household current to 12 volts, and they may require hardwiring (although one artist I know found a 12-volt fixture with a built-in transformer which she was able to plug into a 120-volt outlet. A 12-volt fixture accommodates very efficient bulbs that offer a variety of wattages and beam spreads, including the 50-watt MR-16, which is popular in galleries.

I decided on 120-volt lighting for the trade show, because I wouldn’t have to worry about transformers and could just plug it in.

Choosing a Store and Track Lighting

I read the ACRE online forum for clues about where to buy lighting. What one artist said struck me as eminently sensible: He buys all his lighting at Home Depot, because if anything goes wrong at the show, he can find a store nearby for replacement parts.

This was something to consider: Tempting as the gorgeous designs might be, special-order lighting of any kind introduces the risk of having a malfunctioning light for the duration of a show.

Another artist on the ACRE online forum said he buys his lights from Lowes. It probably doesn’t matter which big-box store one chooses, as long as there’s one in every city.

Since I was new to trade shows and this was to be my first lighting kit, I resisted choosing from the many good suppliers on the web. I settled on the limited but attractive selection at Lowes. A side benefit of this was that my choices were comfortably narrowed.

Within the category of halogen lighting, you can get either track lights or stem-mounted lights (with arms extending outward). I went with track lights. This was partly because the stem lights I found on the web were relatively expensive and Lowe's didn’t offer them, and partly because with track lights I could have one cord instead of several hanging down.

The Lowes lighting salesperson was helpful in putting together a full package from the track lighting on display and in stock. I decided on four, two-foot tracks to keep the size of my shipping boxes down. Here’s a rundown of what I bought:

· 4 two-foot track sections, Portfolio brand, black finish, Item #225678. Each section holds 2 lights, for a total of 8. Total: .12

· 8 Flared Gimbal Track Lights, Portfolio brand, Item #120673, with a satin chrome finish for a contemporary look. They are easy to attach to the track by following the directions. Total: .76

· 8 halogen bulbs, Par 20, 50-watt, for bright, crisp light. I bought several floodlights and a couple of spotlights. The bulbs are very packable, at a little over 3” long and 2.5” in diameter. Total: .00

· 2 Miniature Straight Connectors by Portfolio, Item #120716, for joining two of the track sections end to end. The idea is to have only one cord to plug in from a row of four lights. Total: .92.

· 2 Cord and Plug Sets, Portfolio brand, Item #120827, to power track from a standard AC wall outlet. I connected these to the end of the two of the track sections by unscrewing the covering on one side of the track. Total: .06

· Various Multi-Purpose Ties (cable ties), by Catamount, for attaching tracks to booth pipes. Total: .00

· 2 heavy-duty extension cord/power strips – 14-gauge, 15-feet, with three outlets each, Woods brand, from Lowe’s, Item #170224, model 82965. Total: .00

Grand total: 3.86

The Gimbal lights I chose only accept a 50-watt, PAR 20 bulb, which made it easy to pick out the bulbs. So in this case, the fixture drove the choice of bulb, not the other way around.

According to the Bulb Photometrics page at Contractors Choice Lighting, a PAR 20, 50-watt halogen flood bulb will emit a beam of light with a 5’4” diameter when it reaches 10 feet away. It offers about 12 foot-candles worth of light at 10 feet away from the bulb (a foot-candle is the level of illumination on a surface one foot away from a standard candle.)

For the sake of comparison, a PAR 30 beam offers a diameter of more than 8’ at 10 feet away, and you still get about 14 foot-candles at that distance. What happens if you notch it up to a 75-watt bulb? You get a lot more foot-candles (38) at 10 feet away. This suggests that larger trade-show booths might want to take advantage of higher PAR and higher watt bulbs.

All together, the track lighting system I chose uses 400 watts of electricity. This left me another 100 watts to add specialty or accent lighting to my booth, while still remaining at the 500-watt limit.

Cords, Plugs and Hanging Lights

The Las Vegas Convention Center has very strict rules for cords, plugs, and hanging lights.

The two-pronged, 18-gauge cords that the manufacturer has attached to your lights are acceptable (leave the UL tags and labels intact). These lighting cords cannot be plugged into the convention center outlet, however. Instead, you must plug them into a three-pronged, heavy duty, 14-gauge extension cord – or a breaker strip with a 14-gauge cord. You can then plug that 14-gauge extension cord into the convention center outlet.

A 14-gauge extension cord is capable of handling 1,825 watts. It’s helpful to read the brief extension-cord sizing and safety information on the web pages of the Underwriters Laboratories (www.ul.com/consumers/cords.html) and the University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service ([http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/FY800]) before purchasing a cord.

Bruce Baker suggests the cord be 20 feet with six outlets, and that it include a cord reel. I couldn’t find this type of cord at Lowe’s, so I decided on two 15-foot, heavy-duty, 14-gauge extension cord/power strips, each offering three outlets. If you have a larger booth, you can find a 25-foot cord with three outlets at Lowe’s.

There are so many different approaches to hanging lights, and so many variables to consider, that it could be a topic for another article. In general, you can hang or clip lights onto a cross bar or onto the “hard walls” of your display if you have them. Depending on the rules of a particular trade show and the size your lighting system, you may be permitted to attach the lights to the booth’s existing pipe and drape.

Since my booth design does not include my own walls, my lights will attach either to the existing pipe or to a cross bar. Cable ties (commonly called “zip ties”) appear to be tool of choice for attaching tracks to the pipes or bars, and even for attaching additional cross bars to existing pipe and drape. One artist I know uses Velcro strips, followed by cable ties to secure the attachments. There are a few entire websites for cable ties. One of them is http://www.cabletiesplus.com .

I purchased Multi-Purpose Ties from Home Depot. They can bundle 4 inches in diameter, withstand temperatures up to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, and hold up to 50 lbs.

Accent Lighting: LEDs

There are many ideas for accent lighting – although a fair treatment of the topic is beyond the scope of this article. Light-emitting diode (LED) lighting is one technology that is experiencing breakthroughs and growing fast. It takes many LEDs to equal the light output of a 50-watt bulb, and LEDs are fairly expensive, so LEDs aren’t ready for prime time when it comes to lighting a whole booth.

There are several close-up applications for LEDs, however, that are worth looking into now. An example is the in-counter light bar sold by MK Digital Direct at http://www.mkdigitaldirect.com (at a whopping 5 per foot). The more affordable MK Sparkle Light Pocket () is a portable device that has extra long-life of over 100,000 continuous hours and promises to give jewelry “maximum sparkle and scintillation.”

The Nexus mini LED light system (www.ccl-light.com), meanwhile, offers a lot of illumination for its size – a puck shape not much bigger than a quarter. The company says it is for direct display lighting of crystal and glass, and it can even be submerged in water. The light is attached to a 12’ cable that ends in a plug, and has “mode switch” with seven different color choices. Unfortunately, white is not one of the color choices, and at it’s a bit expensive. Still, a few of these lights combined with room lighting could draw viewers into your booth and toward your most dramatic displays.

LEDS also include tube lights, flexible lights, linear lights, and bulbs. Superbright LEDs (www.superbrightleds.com/edison.html ) has a collection of 120-volt screw-in LED bulbs for accent and other low-lighting applications, as well as a host of other fascinating products such as “plant up-light fixtures.”

At this writing, the search was still on for accent lighting to give my booth an extra special glow. Stay tuned for a future article on the results.

Territorial Architecture in Santa Fe

Territorial Architecture in Santa Fe

Santa Fe, New Mexico is home to some of the finest examples of Territorial architecture, one of the best known Old West building styles. Like Pueblo Revival architecture, the Territorial style combines many historic building techniques with contemporary touches, and its prevalence in Santa Fe has helped the city come to be a hot spot of southwest architecture. For anything buying or selling property in the Santa Fe area, a normal knowledge of this curious and adaptable building style is a must.

Territorial architecture can commonly be described as a mix between Pueblo and Victorian building styles. As the name suggests, it was industrialized in the Old West's territorial pre-statehood days, when this vast region was populated by European and American settlers who brought with them Victorian two and three store building traditions, but often found pueblo building techniques to be more practical. Territorial homes often feature flat walled and roof construction, but with adaptations like large windows, in difference to the small light portals, which were traditionally used to block as much heat as possible.

Territorial architecture typically includes more face wood than Pueblo buildings, especially near window frames and doors. Old building techniques like central courtyards and stone on stone building keep these homes cool in the southwest heat, and have been elegantly updated to fit with contemporary building styles. Many Territorial buildings also consist of a touch of Art Deco or Art Moderne, forms which nicely complement the uncomplicated aesthetics of the original southwest. While Territorial buildings often corollary tradition closely, most new homes in this style use the latest building materials to emulate the elegance of Old West. Here, level stucco is often used in place of thick plaster on face walls.

Homes and buildings in the Territorial style can be found throughout the Southwest, but Santa Fe has fostered this building form more than most other cities. The city's 1957 Historical Zoning Ordinance brought Territorial and Pueblo architecture into the 20th century, with its requirement that all new buildings in the city approved to be traditionally styled. There's no good place than Santa Fe, New Mexico to see how this excellent building style has industrialized since the pioneer days.

reasoning Abuse - The 7 Most important Things To Know

reasoning Abuse - The 7 Most important Things To Know

1. Sticks and stones won't break my bones" - and words won't leave any measurable physical damage, but they will cause progressive, long-term harm. Never underestimate the power of words: words are used to brainwash.

Being told you are "stupid", "ugly", "lazy" or "worthless" is never acceptable. The first times you hear it, it will hurt, naturally. In time you "may get used to" hearing it from a partner. That's when you start to internalise and believe it. When that happens you are doing the other person's work of putting you down for them. This is why your feelings of self-worth suffer increasingly over time.

The good news is that just as words have been used to bring you down, you can learn to harness the power of words to build you up and restore your belief and belief in yourself.

2. You are always told that it's your fault. Somehow, anything happens, any way it starts, the ultimate blame is always yours. Consideration that we are talking ultimate blame here. The blaming partner will always tell you that their behaviour was caused by what you said or did. In fact, their argument runs along the lines that you can't possibly blame them for anything, because if you hadn't said what you said, or done what you did it would never have happened.

3. You're more inclined to believe your partner than you are to believe yourself. Have you ever reeled with a sense of hurt and injustice, or seethed with anger at the way you've been treated? Have you found yourself asking: "Is it cheap to feel like this?" "Am I misinterpreting things?" "Have I got it wrong?"

If this is you, what it means is that you have come to be so brainwashed you've stopped trusting in your own judgement. Your mind keeps throwing up the observations and questions because, deep down, you know that what is happening is utterly wrong. But right now you can't feel the power of your own convictions.

4. You need your partner to acknowledge your feelings. Have you ever felt desperate to make your partner hear what you are saying and apologise for the hurtful things they've said? Have you ever felt that only they can heal the pain they've caused?

Does your need for them to validate your feelings keep you hooked into the relationship?

When a partner enduringly denies or refuses to listen to your feelings, that is, unquestionably, thinking abuse.

5. Your partner blows hot and cold. He can be very loving but is often extremely essential of you. He may tell you how much he loves you, yet he is short on care or Consideration towards you. In fact, some of the time, maybe even a lot of the time, he treats you as if you were man he truly dislikes.

You do all you can to make him happy, but it's never good enough. You're more like the pet dog in the connection than you are the equal partner. Your constant efforts to get his attention and please him meet with wee success. Sometimes he'll be charmed, often he's dismissive.

If you find yourself puzzling about how your partner can treat you that way, it is because you are trying to live in a love-based relationship, when in reality you are living in a control-based relationship. The thinking abuser struggles with his own feelings of worthlessness and uses his connection to create a feeling of personal power, at his partner's expense.

6. You feel as if you are enduringly walking on eggshells. There is a real degree of fear in the relationship. You have come to dread his outbursts, the hurtful things that he will find to say to you. (Maybe the same anxiety and need to please spill over into your other relationships also.)

Fear is not part of a loving relationship, but it is a vital part of a mentally abusive relationship. It enables the abuser to assert control over you.

7. You can heal. Mentally abusive relationships cause grand emotional damage to the loving partner who tries, against all odds, to hold the connection together and, ultimately, can't do it, because her partner is working against her.

Whether you are currently in a mentally abusive relationship, have left one recently, or years later are still struggling with the anxieties and low self-worth and lack of belief caused by thinking abuse, it is never too late to heal.

But you do need to work with a man or a programme specifically geared to thinking abuse recovery.

Women who have suffered thinking abuse expect radical turn of themselves, and they expect it right away. This is why they often struggle and, not uncommonly, take up with another abusive partner.

Mental abuse recovery is a gradual process. Low self-worth and limiting beliefs about what kind of future the abuse sufferer can ever hope for are the blocks that can stop women from tantalizing on. But they are blocks that you can clear very effectively. Just as language was once used to harm you, you can now learn how language can heal you. You can overcome past thinking abuse and keep yourself safe from it in the future. You can also learn to feel strong, believe in yourself and create the life and the relationships you truly want.

"The Woman You Want To Be" is a unique workbook designed to accompany you on a year long journey into emotional condition and happiness.

Objects That Are Blessed, Objects That Are Cursed - Do You Own Things That Are Harming You?

Objects That Are Blessed, Objects That Are Cursed - Do You Own Things That Are Harming You?

Has life been more difficult since you brought back that painting from the carport sale? Is your family bickering more since you inherited your aunt's silverware? Are you having problems sleeping since placing that antique dresser in your bedroom? Is it harder to consolidate at your desk since bringing that souvenir from the Far East to your office? If you find yourself having unexplained moodiness, depression, inability to concentrate, anger or are having unusual thoughts come into your head that are not your own, you may own something that is triggering it.

Can objects surely influence how a man feels or acts? Yes, it happens dozens of times a day in your life now - and discernment is needed to differentiate between an face influence on an object, and what is plainly your own emotion about it. What does this mean? It means we need to be careful about what we imply to an object, and what is surely emanating out from it by itself. For example, when you open a photo album and see a photograph of your old husband, you may feel betrayal or loss. That's your own feelings and memories stimulated by the trigger of looking at the photo - there is nothing surely arrival from the photograph trying to influence you to think that way. However, you are now adding your own energy and emotion to the photo for hereafter times that it is seen again. What?! Yes, without even knowing it we influence objects colse to us every day, with safe bet or negative overlays.

There are two separate kinds of influences on objects - energy dustings and persuaded influences. energy dustings are on everything, and we conduce to them every moment of our lives. We can pick to make these participations joyful, happy and peaceful, thus raising the light and love we feel in our surroundings. This is truly the meaning of manufacture a house a home, and our neighborhood a favorite home town. Or, we can carry a storm cloud over our head and dust all colse to us with that. Remember these dustings not only influence places, but citizen and animals too. Have you ever walked into a room where an discussion has just occurred? The tension in the air may feel so thick you could cut it with a knife; you may also get a headache, or feel anxious. How strong a man may feel these dustings depends on their own sensitivities. Some citizen may have to stop and surely focus to decipher what they are feeling, while others and small children are plainly built for receiving input, whether it feels good or bad.

Especially with our children it is beneficial to make sure their surroundings are as peaceful as possible. For example, it will absolutely make a distinction to mood and personality if your baby is trying to sleep in a previously-owned crib used by a child who was constantly screaming because of condition problems or feeling the marital problems of his parents. Whenever possible, for yourself and your children, know the history behind an object before you bring it home. And remember that bringing items into your house in its natural state from the environment carries the energy dusting of the One who created it, which will all the time be wonderful. This means decorating your home with pinecones, natural plants, absorbing stones or driftwood, using creek water over a rock fountain, playing recorded nature sounds from birds - all these created and unadulterated items are Divinely made and will greatly raise the safe bet energy in a room. Be imaginative and develop a few things of your own - perhaps under your desk place a tray of sea sand for your toes to dig in while you work, or use shells as soap dishes.

The history and energy dusting behind an item may also be marvelous - and that is an object to appreciate, enjoy and pass along. perhaps it is a piece of grandmother's jewelry that was a favorite token of appreciation given at her 70th birthday party, which made her smile with pride and happiness each time she put it on. Or a hand-carved game board that has seen excitement and family interaction for 40 years. Not all old things are bad, and not all new things are good. What? Can a man surely buy a new thing that carries problems? Yes, both old and new objects can have influences willfully attached to them.

A persuaded influence is placed on an object on purpose, by man for a exact intention and outcome. It is not an energy dusting that occurs just because it is in proximity, it is much different. When an object is utilized as a trigger, it can be for good or for bad. For example, in the scriptures we see blessed objects that God allowed to be used for touchstones for medical and exorcisms. "God did marvelous miracles straight through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them." (Acts 19:11,12) These objects received a blessing because the man who carried them was blessed, and the anointing carried straight through to objects to help citizen straight through the persuaded influence of God himself.

Today there are many things that carry God's blessing with a permanent anointing on them, no matter when they brought into existence, even when they are made with imperfections straight through the uncomplicated hands of humankind. Some of these are crosses and crucifixes, and renderings of the Holy words. Other objects may carry a blessing on them because a man of faith asks God to place one there, straight through answered prayer. Also, a man may be blessed, such as when they pick to step up for priestly ordination, which carries a God-anointing that allows blessings to be done for more exact outcomes, such as creating anointing oil, Holy water, blessed wine and communion. There are many safe bet things any of us can do, because as children of God, we all have separate gifts, and with each of those gifts come supplementary blessings, such as medical or the gift of miracles. But a hands-on ordination is a classic gift of extra blessing that God allows for both men and women, and he blesses the office not the imperfections of the one carrying it out. On our part, it shows our heart's motivation to step send in the work and expand. On God's part it gives us a separate arrangement with him and the Holy Angels. Basically when we receive this blessing we acquire more Angelic heavy-hitters to help us, and our quality to hear and be heard increases. This is vital for most deliverances, all exorcisms, most hauntings, and many exact blessings such as land and air blessings and manufacture sacred ground. Also, many times a man may have more darkness against them than they are aware of, or their faith is not strong adequate on their own; and they need an ordained man to help to break generational bondage, curses, hexes, spells, incantations, negative prayers or evil intent sent against them.

Now, knowing this, perceive that some citizen spend a lot of time and energy dedicating objects not for blessings, but for the opposite of that. In some cases, these citizen have sought out dark forces, and attach themselves to unHoly Angels straight through demonic rites and rituals. More have dedicated themselves and prime objects straight through customs and traditions where they unknowingly apply for association to these fallen Angels, and for generation after generation the negative cycle may continue to influence a family, a company, a community or even an whole region. Beyond the local area, a man anywhere colse to the world may be manipulated since the Internet allows us to purchase anything from anywhere and bring it level into our homes. These objects may be large, gorgeous and high-priced so that a man may be more inclined to keep them and take too lightly problems related with them. Or they may be small and easy to carry and even thought about a keepsake or "good luck" charm, or a coarse souvenir of the area. They may be family heirlooms passed from generation to generation, especially prized in places of poverty. Private craftsmen or family associates may have performed an occasion ceremony or offered a dedication upon every item created straight through them, and whether knowingly or unknowingly did it in such a way to offer the unHoly Angels free reign and association over thousands of objects. Although it only takes once for an object to be cursed or willfully dedicated for the use of the unHoly Angels, the manipulation, heartache, illness and destruction from these unHoly objects can continue on for centuries, with hereafter owners not knowing any prior history of the item at all, and meanwhile suffering from the effects.

It is not just third world countries or safe bet cultures that seek to benefit themselves by negatively influencing the products they make. Some objects are willfully manipulated by citizen in associates who are more concerned in the lowest line than anything else. And while some do seek out unHoly ways to influence their product line, most are negative energy dustings designed to make an unhealthy or unnecessary product desirable to buy, and then to break shortly after purchase or the warranty has expired so that another item must be bought to replace it. While not as detrimental as persuaded influence, these energy dustings lower the happiness in a home and can cost thousands of dollars in exchange and heal bills.

If energy dustings happen from the strong emotions that citizen feel, how many things in our home have a dusting? plainly everything. If you are eating carrots, how many hands has that gone through? Let's say the citizen in operate of the carrot enterprise have good motives, pick to grow organically, and try to have a good association with all its employees. But what about the receptionist who just lost her father, or the worker in the field who is suicidal, or the truck driver who is exhausted and angry, or the grocer who is frustrated, or the hundreds of citizen that pass though the vegetable aisle? All these are adding their dusting to the carrots that you are going to eat and feed to your family. Think of it this way - let's say the carrot on its own like a glass of clear water, with nothing added to it, neither sweet nor sour. Because of the primary beneficial desires of the company, sweetness is added to the water, a full three tablespoons of sugar is stirred in. But because of any negative emotions along the way, any drops of vinegar have also been added, and now what is served at your table is not as healthy or tasty as what it could be. And if the vinegar article is high enough, it could even make your body and spirit ill. We started our example with a good company, but many do not add any "sugar" at all. But our primary enterprise could have done best too - a clergyman could have been asked to come out and do a land blessing over the enterprise and the fields. This would promote safe bet energy dustings and ask for God's advice and blessing on the produce, which in follow adds a excellent number of sweetness to the water, and more importantly dissipates and nullifies any interference of vinegar added along the way.

And this is the key to removing any negative energy dusting to anything we own - blessing it. What happens when you enter a totally dark room and charge a match? Although the darkness is in volume thousands of times greater than the light, the darkness cannot put out the candle. And the more light we add, the more shadows flee from the light, because light and dark cannot be in the same place at the same time. All of us are sparks off the Divine flame - anything can pray for a blessing, and pick to be a candle in the dark place. And the more we have chosen love over fear in our own lives and invited God in to illuminate our way, the brighter our faith and prayers are - and we become much more than a candle, but a brilliant chandelier reflecting light into every nook and crevice until darkness cannot survive anywhere.

Prayer changes things. When we pray a blessing over our food and water, it changes its qualities and any negative energy dusting on it disappears. Prayer is a gift that God gives to persuade a safe bet and Divine influence, and our energy expands beyond anything we could do on our own. In this way, our brilliant chandelier now reflects the rays of the magnificent sun. Ask a blessing over your medications, over any objects that you purchase or are given, over your car, over your animals, over people, over places and things you pass by - be a mobile instrument of transformation, a walking instrument of prayer. Funny thing about giving love, you receive it back even more so - along with feeling more peace, contentment, confidence and joy!

How does a man ask for a blessing? Although there are exact prayers available for many things, most of the time those are only needed by priests when the deeper work is called for. What is in your heart? This is what God desires to hear; words that come from your soul, in your empathy, from your compassion, in your longing for things to be good, for light to expand, for love to win the war. And because of your free will desire to interact with God for the transformation to take place, you become an instrument in his hand for change. Even many negative persuaded influences (curses) can be broken this way by an un-ordained man of faith. If the prayer is done with respect for Jesus, no matter what religion you are your prayer has much more authority and power open to it.

At times it may be difficult to descry between a generational bondage passed down straight through family lines and effects from items that are owned which are cursed. Generational bondage is a problem that comes down straight through family lines and can be of any nature, physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. It is often attributed to genetics or family history, and is an attachment on the family members themselves and not what they own. This can start by a distant family member dabbling or complex in the black arts, or a curse placed upon them by man who was. It can be recognized by a repetition of separate things, for example; generation after generation of failed enterprise ventures, or every man in the family having a stroke before turning 50, or thinking depression passed from grandmother to mum to daughter. Although a man can say the exact prayer for breaking generational bondage for themselves, most of the time a clergyman is needed. There are also gorgeous and remarkable prayers called The Divine Decrees which are excellent words to help all of us align with Angelic advice and protection, and are given to us just for this time of world shift. Many of these are exact for separate blessings, and remarkable transformations have been documented from reading them.

If the prayers have been said and instead of a cleansing the word comes back that it is best to destroy the object in question, or a feeling of uncleanness or obscuring still permeates the item, then total destruction of the object must occur. Remember that the unHoly Angels are smart and can pick to lie dormant with an object for a long time, or turn off and on the problems emanating from it. It cannot be plainly given away or thrown away. If it is of metal or other difficult to destroy material, it still has to be made unusable by anyone. If it is of wood or other malleable material, cut it up or burn it in a safe place. Then, no matter what it is, bury it in the ground. If you have way to Holy water, or can get it from a church, manufacture the sign of the cross upon the ground after burial is a good idea. Blessed salt can be used for the same thing. Do not allow yourself to be doubtful, fearful or to put off destruction of the object after the item is recognized for what it is, for some are even used as objects for portals, and your troubles may multiply since the unHoly Angels now know they have been exposed and have minuscule time to cause harm. Sometimes odd things happen when destroying such an object, because the demons do not want to have their object harmed, and will try to cause fearful sounds or sights colse to the man who is destroying the object. If you do not feel you have strong adequate faith to do what is required, giving the item to a clergyman or a man of great faith is the best choice. God plainly wants to bless you, and have your family and surroundings a place of peace. He gifts citizen with separate abilities to help him help one another, so do not feel that giving the object to another to destroy it is comprehensive feebleness - it is drive on your part to identify it and to put into motion the end of it.

Today we live at a time of complete accessibility to items from all over the world. All of these objects are dusted by the high energy emotions of citizen they come into contact with. Some are contaminated by willful dedication to negative influences, and become items that wreck havoc to the lives and well being of their owners. Prayer cleanses and transforms most of these items into Godly touchstones of health, light and love. Discernment is needed to differentiate between an face influence on an object, and what is plainly a person's own emotion about it. Discernment is also needed to identify and destroy objects that cannot be cleansed. A clergyman may be called upon for exact blessings that are required in some situations, while at other times a man of faith may be able to do many blessings themselves. We can pick to bless people, places and things straight through prayerful affection, and not pass on objects of affliction. All of us are in operate of how our surroundings influence us and our family, and there are safe bet things we can do every day to make our house a blessed home of peace, joy and love.

While both incredibly awesome smart phones, are great to have all at once. It is more likely we would only carry one by our side at all times.

Key points to consider are, the Network the phone is established on, and the user taste on each phone.

The estimate one thing that should be thought about is the service. The iPhone is married with At&T, and the Droid is engaged with Verizon.

Verizon hands down has the best network service, with a greater 3G coverage than At&T, and not to mention all those data hungry iPhones on At&T sucking their Gsm/Hspa towers dry daily. But, with At&T's Gsm/Hspa network is suitable in mort parts of the world. Meaning, you can bring your iPhone when you voyage and still be able to pick it up and make a call surface of the Us.

Should Children Own Cell Phones?

Should children have cell phones? Is there a real need for a kid to own a cell phone? Parents should look at separate things such as the age of the child, in which situations he or she would use it and where will the child be taking it.

NFL 2006: New England Patriots

NFL 2006: New England Patriots

The dynasty of the New England Patriots ended last season in the NFL playoffs when Denver posted a 27-13 win at Mile High. That loss ended a run that may not be duplicated again in the free agency era.

The boys from Beantown captured three Super Bowl championships in four years and broke the Miami Dolphins consecutive game win streak in the process. Who would have thought it could happen in this day and age?

Last season, injuries, illness and a defense that surrendered 338 points left the Patriots at 10-6, still good enough for the AFC East crown, but not good enough for home field advantage. With a solid draft and some healthy veterans returning - Bill Belichick and the boys look to climb back to their old ways and become Super Bowl contenders.

Offense: It starts and ends with Tom Brady. We all know the story by now. Sixth round pick does good and leads team to three world titles. In 2005, Brady proved he's not only a good leader but a damn good quarterback as well. The Michigan grad led the NFL in yards passing (4,110), while completing 63 percent of his passes to go along with 26 touchdown.

Brady is the main cog of the Belichick engine. He understands the system, he's like a coach on the field - dissecting the defense and knowing what every person is supposed to do on his team and the opponents. The Patriots better pray he doesn't get hurt or the season is over. Matt Cassel and Cody Bramlett are the backups. Oh my God!

Corey Dillon had an injury-prone 2005 season. He failed to reach 1,000 yards (733), but he did find the end zone (12 TDs. He's back healthy and with some competition so that should fire him up. New England drafted Lawrence Maroney out of Minnesota to be the future star of the franchise. Dillon is no spring chicken and Maroney runs with force and power - just like the old Cory Dillon. Don't be surprised if Maroney becomes the featured back this season. Kevin Faulk returns as the third down back.

The Patriots are fortunate to have two solid fullbacks on the roster in starter Patrick Pass and backup Heath Evans. Both are experienced veterans who can block, run and catch passes effectively.

New England lost the services of David Givens, but responded by signing Reche Caldwell from San Diego and drafting Florida standout Chad Jackson in the second round of the draft. Deion Branch (78-998-5) returns as Brady's main target, but he's been a distraction, threatening to holdout of training camp unless his contract is redone. Ageless wonder Troy Brown (39-466-2) returns to add depth and experience.

The tight end position is a strength for the Patriots and it only got stronger with the drafting of Garrett Mills from Tulsa. Mills is an excellent receiver and solid blocker who was a fullback in college. He has excellent potential as an H-Back. Ben Watson (29-441-6) and Daniel Graham (16-225-3) are a solid 1-2 punch.

The line is a stable group with Tom Ashworth the only departed member. Dan Koppen returns at center with Stephen Neal and NFL 2005 All-Rookie Logan Mankins at guard; with Matt Light and Brandon Gorin holding down the left and right tackle slots. Russ Hochstein, Nick Kaczur and rookie road grader Ryan O'Callaghan provide depth.

Defense: The defense faltered a little in 2005, but that was do more to injuries than lack of ability. Eric Mangini is gone and new coordinator Dean Pees hopes to bring the defense back to its Super Bowl level of the past.

The defensive line returns intact with Ty Warren and Richard Seymour at defensive end and Vince Wilfork at the nose. Jarvis Green and Marquise Hill provide backup at the end slots. For some unknown reason, Belichick decided to trade with New Orleans to get career underachiever Johnathan Sullivan. He didn't disappoint by getting arrested recently, which didn't set to well with Patriot brass.

The linebacking corps suffered a blow when Willie McGinest was let go for cap reasons. Big mistake! McGinest is a hard worker who hustles on every play. He's also a leader in the locker room who will be missed. Still, all is not lost. Tedy Bruschi returns 100 percent and along with Mike Vrabel (108 tackles, 4.5 sacks), make a scary good inside tandem. Roosevelt Colvin (seven sacks) returns on the outside with Tully Banta-Cain taking over for McGinest. Monty Beisel, free agent pickup Barry Gardner and Don Davis provide depth.

The secondary was downright dismal at times last season. The unit managed only 10 interceptions in 2005, one of the worst outputs in the league and needs to improve. The good news is strong safety Rodney Harrison returns healthy after an injury plagued season. He's starting to show his age, but he's still one of the best SS to ever play the game. Eugene Wilson occupies the free safety position, while Tebucky Jones and Artrell Hawkins are capable backups.

Starting corners Asante Samuel and Ellis Hobbs led the team with three picks each, but will be pressed by Chad Scott and free agent Eric Warfield, long time starter out in Kansas City.

Special Teams: The biggest off season news for New England was with its special teams. Super Bowl hero Adam Vinatieri and returners Bethel Johnson and Tim Dwight weren't retained. Bad news for Patriots fans. The Vinatieri decision is a complete mystery to me. How can you get rid of possibly the best clutch kicker in NFL history and think that Martin Gramatica is an upgrade? Unbelievable!

Josh Miller (45.1) returns as punter. Hobbs will replace Johnson as kick returner and Brown will go back to returning punts. Rookie Stephen Gostkwoski was brought in to challenge Gramatica.

Outlook: There have been big losses in New England (McGinest, Givens, Vinatieri) but the players love Belichick's system and respond well to it. He's exceptionally good at evaluating talent and how it fits that system. The Patriots have declined since their Super Bowl run, but with Brady and a solid, experienced group, New England should hold off Miami and win another East title.

Prediction: The Patriots keep back an up-and-coming Dolphin squad to win another division crown. They'll lose a game or two without Vinatieri and finish 10-6 or 11-5.

Should Radio Stations Be Censored?

Should Radio Stations Be Censored?

Is it a violation of free speech to censor radio stations? We will go over these and other questions in this article. First off why are radio stations censored? To safe the public. Now many of you may agree or disagree with censorship. I for one fully disagree with censorship. I for one believe in free time of speech. We live in a great country which allows us to have choices and the way I see it, if you don't like what is being said convert the channel.

Now here is my mental why radio stations should not be censored. First off I believe in small government and more free time for the public. When a radio center decides to censor something it is a slap in the face to every listener out there. I think we all are adults and have a tiny thing known as common sense. We all have the mental capacity to resolve what to listen to and what not to listen to. Now citizen may say well we need to censor things for the kids and yes that maybe true to a point but let's be realistic here. First off it's the parents job to resolve what their kids listen to and what their kids do not listen to. It's not the governments job to do this. Next if we are protecting the kids then Mtv should be banned, have you watched some of the stuff they show on that station. That is where good parenting and teaching your kids to be responsible comes in to play.

Overall in life the more of one thing you have the less of something else you have. So yes we may have more security on radio stations with all of the censorship but we lose out on free time of speech. The more security you have in life the less free time you have. Just look at prisoners, they have all the security in the world but not any freedom.

Dell Online (Case Study)

Dell Online (Case Study)

Background (General Facts from Case Study)

Dell is a computer corporation recognized for manufacturing computer systems straight through parts assemble. In 1983, Michael Dell saw an opportunity in using Ibm compatible computers for a new assembly line that can be sold to local businesses. The idea as explained by Michael Dell, in an interview with Joan Magretta[1], is that in the early days of computers' manufacturing, companies had to be able to furnish every part of the system. As the industry matured, companies started to focus on single parts and to come to be specialized in creating items that can be assembled with other parts to put in order a computer. As a result, Dell understood that to have a contentious edge in the market, they needed to focus on activities that drive sales instead of putting capital in producing items that other industry are already creating.

In the 1990's, the computer shop revolved around desktops, notebooks, and network servers. Dell competed with high-end machines from Ibm, Hp, and Compaq with a product line that provided value-priced systems for consumers and highly dependable networked systems for business. In the late 90's, around 40% of households owned a pc in the Us. On the contrary, from the company side, around 80% of the companies still had old server and desktop machines. Administration had to approve purchasing orders, which resulted in only 2.2% of servers' sale in comparison to the total purchases for desktop Pcs in 1996.

In order for Dell to accomplish .8 billion from sales in the late 90's, it had to skip over the traditional channels of using retail or value-added resellers (Vars) to sell directly to the consumers . The "direct-model "or as Michael Dell comments on how his new employees call it "The model" is not that all grand system. It is plainly a way for Dell to cut on the accepted supply chain cycle and deliver goods directly from the constructor to the customer. They created partnerships with any suppliers such as Sony, Intel, and others to deliver goods effectively at the time of the order to Dell's plant where the assembly took place. The delivery and shipment were outsourced straight through a dedicated assistance that also insured delivering the monitors directly from the provider at the same time. Mr. Dell talks about how suppliers are benefiting from the fact that Dell buys more items from the suppliers retention no inventory and only requesting faster delivery upon orders.

In 1996, Dell capitalized on the growing number of customers who are using the Internet and launched its online store at dell.com. The online venture then proved to be the most accepted sales channel that matched the supply chain direct model implemented by Dell.

In its path to compete in the market, Dell had to supply further services such as DellPlus that enabled Dell to install industrial software packages, DellWare which provided hardware and software from other vendors, and after sales and on-site maintain services. These actions, as described by Michael Dell, required establishing more partnerships, which Mr. Dell describes as a process of "trial and error". The integration with partners was changing as the technology is evolving and many venders go vaporing while others remain sold. Furthermore, finding for an It company to build the online store brought in very few players, which made Dell accept the overhead of developing the portal in-house.

Enterprise Architecture Issues

Supply Chain Management: The purchase and number of transactions that Dell took in required a properly configured and brief company process. In-sourcing: To meet the examine of the shop some parts of the process required the services of other companies that can be in partner with Dell. quality Assurance: The computer industry is a very dynamic one, which makes quality products stand out when faced with technology-oriented consumers. company Automation: As Dell advanced into online markets, its sales staff feared from losing their jobs in favor of self-operating sales transactions. Dynamic Industry: The technology industry requires intimately monitoring consumers' trend to maintain a low gap between the point of examine and the point of supply.
Analysis

Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Administration (Scm) aims at integrating all corporate activities to improve relationships at all levels (internal operations, provider networks, and distribution channel) to meet the contentious edge and satisfy the buyer (Al-Mashari and Zairi 2000)[2]. In order to build an effective and perfect company process that supports Scm, data among all company partners need to be shared. data sharing straight through the Internet reduce the gap for business-to-business (B2B) industry by enabling seamless integration with company processes among partner corporations (Archer 2006)[3].

Dell advanced its internal company process by creating output cells that start assembly at the point of order. It also established an internal data system to make the details of the products under output electronically available to all parties within the chain. To manage the supply of computer parts, Dell maintained close relationships with their suppliers and logistics providers to make their vendors manage the inventory system while Dell focused on product assembly (Kumar and Craig 2007)[4]. In addition, Dell used company technology to make their database and methodologies available to the provider to understand how Dell works. On the consumer side, orders made straight through the phone or online straight through dell.com produced a tracking code that the consumer can use to track the status of his or her order at any time straight through the phone or on Dell's website.

In sourcing

Organizations worldwide are benefiting from the specialized services offered by varied companies. In the shipping and converyance arena, companies Like Ups (United Parcel Service) and Dhl stand out as masters in their industry. Ups and Dhl have established offices and transportation vehicles all across the world. They supply company services straight through in-sourcing which enables them to be part of the internal company process of companies (Marcum 2007)[5]. To a company like Toshiba for example, after-sales maintain assistance would need shipping the damaged computer to and from the consumer's side. For that, Ups would say, "Look, instead of us picking up the engine from your customers, bringing it to our hub, then flying it from our hub to your fix facility and then flying it back to our hub and then from our hub to your customer's house, let's cut out all the middle steps. We, Ups, will pick it up, fix it, and send it right to your customer" (Friedman 2006)[6].

Dell understands that it need not compete unless it would get the benefit in the market. Michael Dell says that one should value the competition field and pick the best one. In that context, after-sales services were contracted with firms who are specialized in that field and can be contacted directly straight through the integrated supply system to fulfill the requests of the consumers. Furthermore, shipping is handled straight through complicated shippers to deliver systems to consumers or to resellers across the world. In addition, Dell has saved the overhead cost of monitors' delivery by requesting shippers to deliver from the monitor's provider directly to the consumer at the same time.

Quality Assurance

In a contentious arena, companies seek to have an benefit straight through means that are not necessarily associated to price. Constraints against outsourcing due to excessive decentralization within organizations can have a negative impact on the value chain process. Combing varied options and being open to diversification would maintain in addition the speed-to-market and enhancing the quality of products (Ernst 2000)[7].

Dell has an operational facility in Penang Malaysia, which places Dell at a central position near to where most suppliers unmistakably have their factories. Orders for goods come directly to Penang town straight through the integrated suppliers' logistic centers (Slcs) chain[8]. The Penang town sends emails to suppliers requesting the parts that will be assembled based on the customer's order. The whole model was effective adequate to need no more than 36 hours from order to shipping. In terms of quality of service, Dell has won numerous awards for highest quality. In spite of that, it continues to find means to growth the efficiency of its products. Michael Dell recommend that reducing the human interaction with hard drives during assembly would decrease its failure rate. As a result, the discount of the number of "touches" dropped the failure rate to 20%.

Business Automation

The general attitude from individuals and employees within organizations is that automation straight through data systems complicate their internal processes, and might follow in cutting down the number of staff (Khatibi, V.Thyagarajan and Seetharaman 2003)[9]. There are any psychological and behavioral problems associated with reluctance to change, which appear to impede the growth of E-commerce. On the other hand, retailers no longer think their web sites are plainly an added benefit for their customers since the Roi (Return on Investment) percentages from online websites have far outweighed their bricks-and-mortar counterparts (Casey 2004)[10]. For that reason, the staff involved in the traditional sales process requires training to embrace new technologies and to learn how they can benefit from it.

For Dell online store the response from the consumers was huge, however, at first the sales representatives feared that the online website would reduce the number of sale deals they closed. To overcome this, Dell introduced the cost recovery model showing how the online store would maintain sales representative close more deals and at the same time would furnish cost effective results that would have a positive Roi on the business.

Dynamic industry

Customer relations Administration (Crm) is a very vital competency that was born from the number of transactional sales deals straight through call centers. The process of insight customers goes straight through the introductory phase of collecting data then analyzing trends and ultimately building a knowledge base that will drive the profitable association (Liew 2008)[11]. Organizations' use of Crm models is an endeavor to get firsthand knowledge that would improve marketing effectiveness, bring more personalization, and build brands among other objectives based on the nature of the company (Anderson, Jolly and Fairhurst 2007)[12].

Michael Dell model is based on retention no inventory, in order for Dell to maintain that they focused on segmenting their customers into scalable businesses that can be analyzed for their level of demand. Sales executives at Dell used transportation skills to elicit data from customers that would further maintain the examine forecast initiatives at the company. In addition, Dell sent surveys to customers to further understand the satisfaction level with the services provided by Dell and modify its product line and services accordingly. Furthermore, Michael Dell discussed how regional meetings in varied countries invited possible customers to further enrich the association and give room for comments and feedback about Dell's services. On top of all that, Dell strived to supply data for its customers to help them make permissible choices for their It requirements and gain privileged data about new and upcoming technologies. Dell invested in developing a web portal in the form of "Premier Pages" for high-end customers and other for small to medium businesses at Dellmarketplace.com[13]. Both sites aim at providing data to customers and establishing a single point of way for customers' It assistance requirements.

Conclusions

Dell is plainly a success story; it shows how one can gain shop benefit by plainly insight what brings value to customers. No one, even Michael Dell himself when he started, idea that habitancy would enjoy customizing their Pc orders and wait patiently as the order makes its way back to their homes. Some studies talk about how habitancy challenged the introductory delivery estimates provided by Dell to see if they were met.

The level of expansion Dell strived to accomplish brought in problems as with any growing business. However, by adapting techniques such as In-sourcing and mutual benefit partnerships it reduced its possible staff from 80,000 to only 15,000. Dell also was aware of factors that would hinder its supply chain. For example, they maintained a complicated list of shippers as not to be affected by unexpected delays and organizational issues. In addition, they understood the point of developing their own company systems in-house to control all the variables and maintain their company processes.

This is one of the best case studies in the It industry. I believe the level of commitment Dell showed in the model he created is inspiring. On the editorial side, I believe more highlights on the internal infrastructure of Dell's network would have helped in building an insight of how the supply chain unmistakably worked. Did they use Crm modules, Erp, Scm, or a aggregate of all? How did Dell acquire its data link with its suppliers, were all of them mature adequate when it came to data systems?

Recommendations

Organizations should focus on value adding activities like establishing online portals for their customers. Businesses should show the way frequent surveys to quantum the level of assistance they supply and work on enhancing their products. Organizations should decentralize and enable expansion straight through global techniques such as out-sourcing and in-sourcing. building internal company data systems is the most effective methodology for data and knowledge sharing. Establishing complicated touch points with customers, progress the association and increases satisfaction levels. Meeting global quality standards is the only way to get an benefit in a contentious arena. Internal assosication estimate and training is vital to maintain the high spirit of employees and growth their productivity. Administration maintain and funding is a key element in the success of any data system implementation.
